Last year I started swimming regularly for the first time in my adult life in an effort to keep fit, but also to relieve stress and help improve my mental well-being. I thought it might be helpful to track my swims and my progress as well, so I downloaded the JustSwim app and signed up to the Swim England newsletter. In one of the newsletters I received there was a competition to win a holiday to Club La Santa in Lanzarote. I entered and then thought no more about it until I received an email a month or so later telling me I was the lucky winner!
I was thrilled because I had never been to any of the Canary Islands before and the sports facilities at Club La Santa looked amazing.
It was a very welcome break for both my husband and me because we had both been very busy at work leading up to the holiday, and the weather in early October in Lanzarote was beautiful – a welcome change from the British autumn weather!
Our apartment at Club La Santa was clean, comfortable and spacious and I was delighted that we could see the sea from our windows. I also loved the rainfall shower in the room – perfect after working up a sweat during the many physical activities on offer.
“As someone still fairly new to swimming, I was a little concerned that I might feel out of place in this sort of sports resort, but I realised after I arrived that I needn’t have worried: with the vast range of sports and activities on offer, there is truly something for everyone.”
I took the opportunity to take a swimming lesson in one of the impressive 50m pools to improve my backstroke, and I also took a ballroom dancing class and did some relaxing yoga. My husband enjoyed taking some golf lessons and we both also enjoyed playing mini-golf on site! We found the booking app really helpful for exploring what was on offer and planning our time throughout the week.
We also took advantage of one of the tours on offer so we could experience Lanzarote itself. We booked onto a wine tour of the region via the guides booking office, and organised by Lanzarote Wine Tours, which involved visiting three wineries and getting to taste some amazingly fresh goats cheese, plenty of wine and some delicious local tapas. It also gave us the chance to experience the unique Lanzarote landscape.
Photo from the wine region of La Geria. This landscape is dotted with thousands of semi-circular walls in black lava rock, surrounding hollows each containing a single vine.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday with a good mixture of sports, relaxation and sightseeing. I would recommend Club La Santa to anyone interested in remaining active while on holiday.
Club La Santa is the only holiday resort in the world with with three open-air heated 50m swimming pools. Each pool has 8 lanes, separated by ropes, and timing pace clocks at both ends of the pool.
There is one pool at the North pool area (which has recently reopened after a refurbishment), with two pools at the South pool area.
These pools are only used for swimming training and instruction, meaning that you can focus on your training without distraction. As well as our pools, our lagoon offers a safe, calm and often warm environment for those who are looking for a place to practice open water swimming, which we can fully support.
