SWIM CAMP HELPS LEWIS WATT TO TRANSPLANT GAME MEDAL SUCCESS

We’re Morethanaholiday  here at Club La Santa, we strive to help people achieve their goals, whether that’s completing their first triathlon, or running 5k without stopping, everybody’s goal is different and our staff are on hand to help you achieve your goal and give you the best experience possible.

Club La Santa did just that for Gillian and Lewis Watt, who both took part in our Swimming Camp back in May. The camp was run by Rose and Terry Jones and is aimed at helping and improving technique and to assist with swimming development. Each day you work on different aspect of freestyle technique. The training camp helps with sharing new ideas and importantly getting people familiar with the water.

Gillian, 57 donated her kidney to her son Lewis back in October 2018, without his mums help Lewis 29, would have needed dialysis treatment.

To help with their recovery the pair both took up swimming – two months post operation they were both in the pool.

Lewis set himself a goal of competing in the British Transplant Games.

Transplant Games take place in different host cities every summer. The games see teams from hospitals across the UK come together to compete in a medley of sports. The 4-day event attracts around 1,000 transplant athletes and it is organised on behalf of Transplant Sport whose aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, encouraging, transplant recipients to lead active lifestyles and show appreciating for and remembers donors and their families.

“Club La Santa is our happy place! We’ve been to Club La Santa for several family holidays over the years.” Said Gillian.

How did the swim camp improve your swimming overall?

The swimming camp gave us both the opportunity to improve our swimming before we attended the event, the instruction was fantastic and helps greatly improve swimming technique.

Lewis went on to win a haul of medals at British Transplant Games July 2019 including: bronze in the 50 metre relay, silver in 50m, 100m and 400 meter freestyle.

Lewis continued his winning streak swimming for team GB in the World Transplant Games and won a haul of medals for his 50 metre medley , men’s 50 metre relay, 400m freestyle and bronze in 200 metre freestyle  and even bagging himself

Gillian and Lewis will return for the masters swim camp in November and we can’t wait to welcome them.
