Olympic Snowboarder, Zoe Gillings-Brier, headed to Club La Santa in June for her family holiday. We caught up with Zoe, and found out all about her stay at the world’s number one active holiday resort. So over to you Zoe…
I have been fortunate to travel a lot over the years and when it comes toward the end of the trip – short or long – I always look forward to going home. I’m not sure what it is – whether its because I don’t spend a great deal of time at home in general, or because I’ve travelled so much in my life I just want to stop living out of a suitcase – even when I competed at the last Olympics in South Korea in February I was looking forward to coming home – all I can say is that at the end of my latest trip to Club La Santa in Lanzarote, I definitely did not want to come home!
This is the description of CLS on its website, “Club La Santa is world’s number one sports and active holiday resort. Situated on the breathtaking north-west coast of Lanzarote, the resort features over 80 different sports, and free group instruction for you to use throughout your stay. Club La Santa is the perfect place for you to do as little or as much as you like.” I just wish I had read this description when I was 16yrs old as I would have been part of the furnishings now if I had of.
I first visited CLS last year as it formed a major part of my summer dry land program on the lead up to The 2018 winter Olympics in South Korea – it was my first visit ever and I absolutely loved it – not only did it cater for everything I wanted as an Olympic athlete (and so much more besides) but it also catered for everything my entire family wanted ranging from sunbathing by the pool, tons of water sports on the lagoon to a fully family friendly activity holiday catering for every age group (including my baby daughter, Lea!)
With this in mind I’ve literally been counting the days down since.
The morning after arrival, we (my husband, my brother and myself) were at the start line of the triathlon whilst the rest of my family came down in support – it was awesome, it was around 7am with a light breeze, the “Green Team” were setting everything up, we had collected our bikes and were setting them up on the bike rack for the 2nd leg of the triathlon and finally applying the sun cream before getting the final briefing from the Green Team. The atmosphere was awesome – lots of different nationalities of varying ages with hugely varying athletic backgrounds all raring to go. It is a real community.
“Needless to say we had a great time, it was hot but there was a lovely breeze, the equipment and organisation as ever was top notch and following the end of the race we had some excellent food at the pool bar… This was the perfect start to the perfect holiday”
Following the triathlon, over the coming week I did a duathlon, aquathon, loads of tennis, yoga, core training, swimming, ball room dancing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, squash, cycling, running, surfing, Zumba, slack lining and crazy golf to name a few! It was absolutely brilliant… I did different sports everyday, sometimes by myself, sometimes with my family but every time there was a great atmosphere, the support from the green team was awesome and it was just tons of fun!
“For me it wasn’t just great because of all the activities and sports I could do, but because everyone in my group could do as much or as little as they wanted – including my daughter Lea… There is so much variety at Club La Santa it is simply out of this world.”
The thing is its not just sports that are awesome – it’s the entertainment too. The “Green Team” have multiple roles – apart from running the daily sports they also put on entertainment at night. Not only that but if you need any help of any during your stay they are always there and most of all willing to help.
As you can probably tell, I love Club La Santa. Whether it’s a relaxing – sit by the pool holiday, a balanced relaxing and activity holiday or a 100% training break, I will be going there every year for a long, long time to come!
