Michelle Heaton, the popular Liberty X band member, actress, TV personality and personal trainer recently took a week out of her busy schedule to take her family to Club La Santa. It was her first visit so we caught up with Michelle and asked her what she thought of the resort.
It couldn’t have worked out better. It basically ticked every box for us. When we’re away as a family I like to have some ‘me and my husband’ time too and we were able to do that. We’re obviously into fitness so being able to participate in so many activities was brilliant.
The children loved the variety of activities on offer. There were morning sessions with art activities which allowed them to express their creative side and physical activities outside in the afternoon. Faith preferred the morning sessions and AJ the afternoons. A lot of effort went into making the sessions fun and how they did that was really clever. In addition the kids took part in tennis and football competitions. Faith was even able to do Zumba with me, so we worked out together. That’s something we could never do at a gym at home.
The main thing is don’t worry about the app before you go or over think things. You can’t book until you check in but that doesn’t matter. There is so much going on you’ll always find something to do. And at night don’t feel you need to stay in sports gear. Most people dressed up and enjoyed themselves eating and drinking, like you would on any other holiday. It’s not all about the fitness.
I always did the morning run around the bay while Hugh got the kids up and then I’d meet them all for breakfast. Hugh would then go to the gym while I took Faith and AJ to Play Time or the pool. Hugh and I always tried to book into something we’d not tried before like TRX or boxing. It was great to work out as a couple. We’d then collect the kids and go for lunch at the pool bar, which had salads that were incredible, and then spend the afternoon relaxing at the pool. There was no pressure to workout all the time. I heard the spa was amazing too but I never had time to try it.
If the kids went to the afternoon Play Time sessions like the treasure hunt and Olympic Day, we’d stay with them and join in.
Hugh’s job is to recruit trainers so he knows a good one when he sees it! He was really impressed. They are the best of the best. There were specialists in certain disciplines which mean the instruction was first rate.
It was so well equipped. Everything you have at home was there so we could have gone self-catering. Although the resort seems big when you first arrive you realise nothing is too far away. And you feel really safe.
The food was really good. There was a huge range at Atlantico and they even had a nice BBQ one night. The pool bar was great for lunch and we ate at El Lago most nights, which was close to our apartment. The kids loved the ice cream parlour there too.
Obviously it’s predominately sportswear and shorts during the day. In the evenings you don’t need heels. Think California over Marbella. Wearing flip flops with dresses is fine.
Faith took part in the kid’s talent show and she was amazing. AJ and Hugh playing golf together was really special too. For me it was the aerial yoga class. It would cost a fortune to try this in London.
Fun, exciting and serene
