This summer saw the first Family Triathlon Training Camp at Club La Santa. We caught up with coach Rose Jones, to find out how it went.
What’s your experience and how long have you worked with Club La Santa?
I came from a swimming background, and a member of a successful Swimming Club in the area.
Over the years I turned that experience and knowledge and started coaching. I have qualifications in British Amateur [ASA] Swim Coaching, [ASA] Swim Instructor, [ASA] Aqua Aerobics Instructor and [ASA] Water Polo Instructor.
When triathlon was in its infancy in the early nineties, I was approached to coach a few local triathlon clubs in the area. I loved the challenges in helping athletes improve their technique and swim fitness.
Since then I haven’t looked back: I am a qualified British Triathlon Coach, British Athletics Coach, Sports Injury and Massage Therapist, Health & Nutrition Adviser.
I have raced from Sprint to Ironman Distance. I have represented GB in Triathlon at Long Course and Standard Distance. I won gold at the British Triathlon National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships and also hold the National British Triathlon Aquathlon Championship in my age group.
My husband and I first heard about Club La Santa 21yrs ago! We came for one week’s holiday and totally fell in love with the place. We were like kids in a sweet shop! We did as many of the weekly events as possible.
Since then, I have worked with the Sports Department at Club La Santa for the last 15 years where I help coach the various Triathlon & Bike Training Camps and for the last two years I have headed up their Swim Camps.
Why do you like Club La Santa so much?
Club La Santa is unique. It is my mini paradise.
It is a safe, fun filled environment, which covers a huge variety of sport for all the family.
How did the Family Tri-Camp idea come about and how did it become a reality?
The idea for a Family Triathlon Camp has been building for a few years.
My husband and I, along with a team of coaches, have a talent squad. They age from 10 to 17 years old.
I announced that I was holding a Family Triathlon Camp at Club La Santa and would anyone be interested in joining us. The response was so good the camp filled up quickly.
With my knowledge and experience of running previous training camps ‘The Family Triathlon Camp ‘ was born.
The training camp was divided into ability and age. During the week, the participants were coached in all 3 disciplines. They learnt new skills and reinforced old skills. They had the opportunity is train and relax in one of the leading sporting resoorts in Europe. Meet new people from other nationalities, with the same sporting goals.
How was the camp for you? And how was the feedback?.
It was amazing, over and beyond my expectations.
The first day is always hectic, but after that the days just got better and better.
Highlights of the camp:
Family Super Sprint Relay.
There were teams of two female and two males. [Girl/boy/girl/boy] with each one individually completing 200m swim, 6km Bike and 1500m run.
Our aim was to make it enjoyable, rewarding and full of fun in the sun. I am very excited about 2018 and we have 25 already registered for this camp!
Some feedback we received from our guests:
Thanks so much we are definitely registering for the 2018 camp!
We absolutely loved this.
Best wishes Bronwen.
