29th January- 4th February

Come and join the only official European training camp for the magical and untamed African mountain bike race, the Absa Cape Epic. Every year in the end of March South Africa hosts a well known stage race held over 8 days of approximately 800km and 16.000m of climbing for amateurs and professionals from around the world (www.cape-epic.com). Lanzarote is the ideal location to train for such an adventurous and extreme event with similar road and track conditions and the same warm and sunny climate. This camp is not only for Absa Cape Epic (future) participants, but for all experienced mountain bike riders with a passion for stage racing (you should be able to ride 4-5 hours on the mountain bike daily).

We will have different lectures on stage race nutrition, “Epic experience”, Absa Cape Epic 2016 race/practical information.

The routes will vary both in length and difficulty, taking you to the far south, through the fascinating Fire Mountains and up to the north with the view over the nearby island La Graciosa. The dramatic landscape of the island and the wind will challenge you on the lava fields, gravel and sandy roads, single tracks, jeep tracks and rocky descents. The daily rides will be between 3 and 6 hours, organized in different group levels. Four times Absa Cape Epic finisher Laurent Sillon, together with the hosts and Green Team bike guides, will offer you plenty of challenges, guidance and many unforgettable off road experiences. On top of that you will get the chance to challenge yourself and experience the race adrenaline in the Club La Santa 4 stage Mountain Bike Race taking place on the 23rd – 26th of January 2016. Please remember to register for the race as well as the camp, if you wish to join both.

The camp is restricted to guests staying at Club La Santa during the event. Pre-registration is required as we have a limited number of participants. The price for the Absa Cape Epic Training Camp is 130 Euros, including all activities on the programme, sandwiches and refreshments on the long ride, event t-shirt, an end of camp dinner and free entry to the Club La Santa 4 Stage Mountain Bike Race. The full payment for the camp will take place in the welcome meeting upon arrival in Club La Santa. Additionally you will have to book and pay your travel arrangements (accommodation) with your nearest Club La Santa office/ agency. Club La Santa reserves the right to cancel or change the event if under subscribed.

Please note that if you want to rent a Club La Santa bike rather than taking your own, you will have to arrange this separately with Club La Santa UK prior to departure. The price for a bike is 98€ per week or 25 € per day for a minimum of 3 consecutive days. It is advisable to book these bikes at time of booking and will be subject to availability.

Laurent Sillon, 5 times Absa Cape Epic finisher will be the leader of this camp. He has been working at Club La Santa since 1994. From March 2006 he has been organizing all the popular Club La Santa Bike Weeks in co-operation with the Event Week Coordinator. • This trail starts off with a steep decent, with tight switch backs and zig-zagged berms. All single trail, super easy to get lost with many trails leading around the slope. After the DH run, you will have a slight downhill with a multiple choice of jumps at your choosing. (I advise only advanced riders attempt) Then after, you can choose to get picked up at the bottom and shuttle back up OR ride your bum off in the XC loop. Taking you back up to the trail head, moderate climb… so don’t forget the WATER. Also look out for the local wildlife, you’ll be sure to find a snake or two, even some roo’s. Now you know what to do, go hit it!
