The Jones at Club La Santa

Posted: Tuesday September 2, 2008

Since 10 days the Club La Santa’s Bike Center and the Plus Instruction office at the Fitness Center have two new faces: Rose and Terry Jones from Wales.

Rose (53), sports therapist and nutritionist, had her own business before. She ran a one-stop-shop especially for sports people. Therefore her current job as Plus instructor fits very well to her previous one. Her husband Terry (56) starts working at the Bike center and is a former manager of gas plant and presently the vice-chairman of the Welsh Triathlon (WT).

Both are keen triathletes and participated in many CLS triathlon camps in past. In average they came to Club La Santa 3-4 times per year to join one of them, either alone or with some of their club.

“Our first stay at Club La Santa was 10 years ago. At this time we tried out everything and were just triathlon beginners. But from time to time we became more and more competitive,” says Rose. “We thought that it is maybe better to live here than to come back several times per year,” thinks Terry and his wife added “as Terry got the opportunity to work here it was a easy decision to change our old lifestyles.”

The married couple, are both British Triathlon Coaches and have coached athletes from beginners to the sport through to high performance levels. They have both represented Great Britain in World Championship Long Course and Olympic Distance Triathlon Races.

Terry and Rose have completed many triathlons over the years which would include Ironman Lanzarote and Ironman Austria. Terry’s next big challenge will be the German Ironman 2009 in Frankfurt, Rose would like to enter some road races

They live in the little village La Santa and still got used to the Spanish lifestyle. “The main difference to Wales is the slower pace” says Terry, “and we don’t think of going back because it’s raining in Wales,” laughs Rose.

Through Internet and their webcam they stay in contact with their family and friends. “We see our 6 grandchildren every 3 month during our holidays at home.”

“It’s nice to meet so many different people from different countries! We have met a lot of old friends here who participated in the triathlon camps with us.”

Their main aim at CLS is to pass their knowledge and experiences onto other people and improve their performances and understanding, for specific training for their desired sport.

Hopefully you enjoy your new chapter of life at Club La Santa and we wish you good luck for your job and sport!
