
Ouchterlony & Langvad win 2 Stage Mountain Bike race 2010

Victories for James Ouchterlony and Annika Langvad marked the start of the 2-Stage Mountain Bike Race, the opening of the
143 people took part, representing 12 countries, including famous names like Germany’s Andy Ströbel, Austrian Silvio Wieltsching, the aforementioned Scot, James Ouchterlony, and Spanish Eneko Llanos, 3 times winner of the World Championship X-terra in Hawaii.
Ströbel and Dane, Rasmus Jessing, took the other men’s podium places.
James Angus Ouchterlony: “I did not think I would win today because the distance was a bit short for me and I knew the Danes were strong. But, when Ströbel almost fell, I took some meters advantage and I kept on very strong until reaching the finish. I do intend to have a great race tomorrow as the race will be long and more technical as today, and I like that!”
He did indeed follow it up with a second win on Sunday at Club La Santa after a 60km race through the tough National Volcanic Park of Timanfaya landscape
If that wasn’t hard enough, strong winds gave riders an even tougher time. In the end the Scot sprinted for the finish line alongside Ströbel and pipped him by 2 seconds.
Masters & Women
In the Masters 40+ event, Belgians Bart Musschoot and Wim Tollenaere finished first and second.
For the women, Dane, Annika Langvad impressed with a clear advantage over all other female racers and many men, as she crossed the finish line in 12th position overall.
She also finished first on the Sunday, with Milena Landwing from Switzerland taking second place.
