Eneko Llanos and Catriona Morrisson were the winners of this year’s Ironman Lanzarote, in another great race.
It was looking food at the start for Brit, Stephen Bayliss, who swam the 3.8km in just 47:42, but sadly dropped out before the end.
Hillary Biscay led the women out at 50:40 and finished 11th overall and as the 9th Pro – it’s impressive that 2 age group athletes beat the pros, Louise Collins who came second, just 1:28minutes behind Catriona and Belgian Veerle d’Haase win her age group (30-34) by finishing an impressive 7th overall.
In the men’s race, German Maik Twelsiek picked up the lead from Stephen over the bike course, but he was overtaken on the run, first by defending champion Bert Jammaer who would end up second (8:39:36), and then by Eneko Llanos who became Ironman Lanzarote Champion for a second time, having won in 2007.

Eneko finished in 8:37:43 this year, improving his time from 3 years ago by 12 minutes, and just 2 minutes and 3 seconds short of the men’s record set in 1995 by German athlete Thomas Hellriegel.
Maik Twelsiek crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 8:42:53.
French physically challenged athlete Stéphane Rouyer put in a great performance too, with the following split times: swim 01:17:21 (T1 10:59), bike 07:10:15 (T2 03:14) and wheelchair marathon 02:38:48, total time 11:20:35.
David Deak, who had recently donated a kidney to his father, did not have such a good day as a bike crash forced him to withdraw from the race. He came back from the hospital with a broken finger – and a smile on his face!
