More than 10 years in a row, we have had the International Bike weeks and the good tradition won’t be changed in 2007. We again have the privilege to host the very popular International Bike weeks at Club La Santa, where the well-known hosts,(former T-Moblie, High road and Columbia riders) together with the Green Team bike guides, will lead you through the fantastic volcanic landscape on Lanzarote.
The Team
Rolf Aldag is one of the most famous and respected German bikers. He has been biking professionally for 15 years – 13 of them for T-mobile and he has done the Tour de France 10 times and won several stages. In 2000 he was the German champion in road biking, and he has also won several six-day races. In 2006 Rolf got a new job as the Sports Director for T-Mobile Team (now team Columbia). Rolf will be here in a part of the bike weeks.
Andreas Klier is probably mostly known for his several top performances in the different classics, specially the spring classics. He has 5 times started the Vuelta de España and 1 time Tour de France and Giro de Italia. He has been riding with T-Mobile since 2001. Andreas will be taking part in the second week.
Jakob Piil is one of the biggest cycling profiles in Denmark. He has 4 times participated in the Tour de France and in 2003 he won a stage. He had been riding professionally since 1995. In 2007 he joined T-Mobile Team. It’s the fi rst time Jakob in taking part in the International Bike Weeks. He will be taking part in the first week.
Gunnar Asmussen has been active within the bike sport more than 40 years. He has won several Nordic championships, and his main achievement is an Olympic gold medal in 4000 m for teams in Mexico in 1968.
Herman Reichold is a German-Italian artist and is known for his abstract paintings in Germany, Lanzarote and around Europe. Herman has only been biking around 10 years, but he is a highly respected biker – according to Rolf Aldag. Herman is the leader of the ”Cappuccino-group” during the bike weeks. Tom Kristensen is a 7-times winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans (Record), the most famous and mythical motor race in the world. Tom has been driving all types of racing cars with great success throughout his career. He is an experienced, versatile athlete and goes hard on both MTB and RacingBikes. A passionated participater in the International Bike Weeks for years.
We will have 3-4 different groups, all lead by a host and a guide, which will go with different speed (from 21 km/h to 30+ km/h). That means that there will be a suitable group for everybody. The slowest group is called Herman’s Cappucino-group and it will go 21-23 km/h. The landscape on Lanzarote is very rough, which give the bikers lots of challenges, and only few bikers can go the same speed as at home.
On Lanzarote you find lots of very interesting climbs. Mainly Tabayesco and Femes – a climb out of category, will show how well prepared you are and will test your legs. Once we reach the top there will be time for a small break with refreshments. It is not unusual that the participants have done about 950 km and had many great experiences and challenges during the bike weeks. The programme also contains other activities than biking. We will have the popular Pool tournament and different lectures with the hosts. Each week ends with a dinner in the restaurant ”La Casa”, where different prizes are handed out. Companions can participate for the price of 23 euros, which contains a 3-menu course and ½ bottle of wine. Besides that we will one evening in the second week go go-karting, so you have a change to challenge Tom Kristensen at what he does best. This is not included in the entry fee and you will get more information about this after arrival.
